‘Quick decision’: Good Samaritans help men out of water after plane crash

GEORGETOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Two men in their 80s were hospitalized after a plane crashed into the water near a Georgetown Township airport Tuesday, authorities say.

It happened around 1:40 p.m at Riverview Airport off Taylor Street near 10th Avenue. The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office says witnesses saw the plane veer off the runway while taking off. It crashed into the water in a gravel pit nearby.

“There were two bystanders nearby and they saw the plane go in the water. They made the decision, very quick decision, to jump in the water and help these two gentlemen away from the plane and brought them back to shore,” sheriff’s office Sgt. Michael Tamminga said…
