John Ball Zoo to feature dozens of insect animatronics in ‘Power of Pollinators’ exhibit

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Starting next week, you can get an up-close-and-personal look at some of Michigan’s pollinators, from bees to beetles to butterflies.

The Power of Pollinators exhibit will feature over 20 massive animatronic insects that both move and make noise. These animatronics were specifically made for the exhibit to give guests a closer look at these powerful insects.

Among them will be the Poweshiek skipperling butterfly, which John Ball Zoo has been working to conserve for several years. This butterfly is now only seen in Michigan, Manitoba and possibly a part of Wisconsin, according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service…
