Teachers union advocates for higher pay at GRPS board meeting

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich (WOOD) — Members of the Grand Rapids Educators Association advocated for higher pay at a Grand Rapids Public Schools board meeting Monday night.

The Vice President of the union told News 8 their contract with the district expired June 30th, so they are looking to make some changes.

“That proposal includes a yearly increase in teacher wages,” Jayne Niemann said. “Right now, we are on a schedule that only gives you a raise every three years. It also increases amounts to be competitive with other districts in the county.”…
