Grand Rapids fight against ‘vampires of the Great Lakes’ receives $2.1M grant

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – The fight against invasive sea lampreys in the Grand River is getting a boost with a $2.1 million federal grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The funding to the Great Lakes Fishery Commission (GLFC) was announced by Congressman Debbie Dingell, D-Ann Arbor, together with the other House Great Lakes Task Force co-chairs, in a press release.

“Sea lampreys are highly invasive and are a significant danger to the native fish of the Great Lakes and the entire Great Lakes ecosystem,” Dingell said in the July 15 statement…
