New Restaurant Brings Soul Food And Family Flavor To Southeast Grand Rapids

Grand Rapids’ food scene just keeps getting better — and if you’re in the mood for something soulful, comforting, and full of family flavor, there’s a new spot you’ll want to check out.

Gladys’ Grille is now open at 1167 Madison Ave. SE, serving up homestyle dishes with heart. The cozy, family-owned soul food restaurant is run by mother and daughter duo Jeannica Garmon and Titiana Oliver, and it’s named after the woman who inspired it all — Jeannica’s grandmother, Gladys Oliver.

Gladys’ kitchen was always the center of the action at family gatherings. It’s where recipes were passed down, memories were made, and love was the most important ingredient. Jeannica grew up learning by her grandmother’s side, soaking up those traditions one dish at a time. Now, she’s keeping that legacy alive — cooking alongside her daughter and sharing those same comforting flavors with the community.

You’ll find plenty to love on the menu, whether you’re stopping in for breakfast or lunch. Morning favorites include omelets, French toast, pancakes, biscuits with turkey sausage gravy, and of course, chicken and waffles. One standout? Gladys’ Sunday Big Breakfast — a hearty plate loaded with eggs, bacon, sausage, ham, American fries, pancakes, and a drink. It’s a full spread that lives up to the name!

For lunch, it’s all about comfort food: wings, fish and chips, meatloaf, mac and cheese, burgers, sandwiches, soups, and more…
