Kent County residents raise concerns about ICE and involvement from local law enforcement

KENT COUNTY, Mich. — A woman who was arrested by Grand Rapids police while protesting nearby an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office spoke before a Kent County Board of Commissioners meeting Thursday.

Sharon Smith says she followed ICE officers to a federal office and blocked the officers from leaving using her car—an act she saw as protecting those being targeted by ICE.

“I [saw] about 10 unidentified men this week detaining Hispanic men,” Smith said. “We know that Hispanic people are being targeted. It’s been admitted that it is racial profiling, and this is just an evil racist system.”…
