63-year-old charged with felonies for online child accosting in Alpena

ALPENA — A 63-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with an online child accosting investigation that began in Kent County, according to the Alpena County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies arrested Ronald Wirgau of Alpena Township on July 27 after executing a search warrant at a residence on Lake Winyah Road. Authorities said electronic devices were seized during the search.

The investigation began July 25 when the Kent County Sheriff’s Office alerted Alpena deputies about a person of interest allegedly communicating with a minor online.

Wirgau was charged by the Alpena County Prosecutor’s Office with two felonies: accosting children for immoral purposes and using a computer to communicate with intent to commit a crime, carrying a maximum sentence of four to 10 years…
