Wednesday marks 50 years since Jimmy Hoffa’s disappearance

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Now 50 years since his disappearance, the legend of Jimmy Hoffa still endures.

When Hoffa disappeared on July 30, 1975, he almost immediately became one of the country’s top missing persons cases — both because of his personal history and because of his alleged connections with organized crime.

An Indiana native, he spent the majority of his life in southeast Michigan as a union organizer. Working with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, he was eventually slotted as the union president in 1957…
