47th Hispanic Festival showcases cultural pride

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Grand Rapids Hispanic Festival kicked off its 47th annual celebration, bringing a vibrant display of Latin American culture to Calder Plaza.

However, this year’s event comes at a time when some in the community say they’re feeling uneasy.

“There’s a lot of fear,” said Francisco Martinez-Roman, the communications and community outreach coordinator at the Hispanic Center of Western Michigan. “But I’m here and I’m gonna be loud about our culture and I’ll celebrate for you. I’ll share our mission. I’ll share our story and we’re gonna keep connecting to these community partners so that you feel safe.”…
