SPARTA, Mich. — A committee set up to explore what it would look like for the Village of Sparta to become a full city government wrapped up its months-long work, adopting its final report, and recommending that the Village go forward with becoming a city.
“A city is a primary form of government, where a village is under the township and the county,” said committee chair, and member of the Village council Robert Carlstrom. “By becoming a primary form of government, you have more autonomy. You collect all your own taxes, and you’re in control of your elections.”
