Former execs at insurance rivals launch startup to take on rising health care costs

Former executives at the state’s two largest health insurance companies say their new Grand Rapids-based startup was created to help tackle the “unsustainable” increases in health care costs.

Rick Abbott and Aaron Friedkin describe Manifest as a “health care solutions design studio” for self-funded employers that initially will focus on four areas: primary care, oncology, behavioral health and orthopedics. They plan to extend into other clinical areas in 2026.
