GEORGETOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Nearly 6,000 students attend Jenison Public Schools, which means keeping everyone safe is no easy task.
For safety leaders with the district, it hinges on clear, concise communication. That’s why, with the school year now underway, administrators are implementing some new security measures, following a set of protocols that’s soon to be adopted by each public school district in Ottawa County and eventually the state.
As school begins, look twice at crosswalks and use bus safety
The new guidelines stem from resources provided by The “I Love U Guys” Foundation, which lay out what district leaders describe as a simple approach that gets everybody — students, parents, staff and first responders — on the same page.
”As we know, most things fail because of communication,” said Jeff Steigenga, the director of security for Jenison Public Schools. “This is going to make it clear so that we don’t have any failures or lack of communication.”…
