Heritage Hill neighbors share concerns about Voigt House

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Heritage Hill Residents and the mayor of Grand Rapids made their voices heard Wednesday night concerning a more than century-old asset in the neighborhood: the Voigt House.

Mayor David LaGrand was invited to speak about the former Victorian Museum at the Heritage Hill Neighborhood Association meeting. It follows weeks of upheaval surrounding the city-owned, and public-museum-maintained property and an apparent lack of attention it’s received in 2025.

The mayor essentially used his time to open a community conversation on what should be done with the house, alluding that the museum would be open to a new plan for the former crown jewel of Heritage Hill’s home tours.

In the meantime, neighbors, former curators and volunteer gardeners who have kept up the grounds since the museum stopped functioning said during public comment they were asked to stop working this year because of security and liability concerns, fueling fear that the house was being intentionally neglected…
