Armed suspect taken into custody after standoff in Plainfield Township

The Kent County Sheriff’s Office says a man is in custody after an hours-long standoff in Plainfield Township Saturday, August 23. Just after 10:00 AM, deputies were called to a home near Balsam Avenue and Holtman Drive for a reported domestica assault involving a weapon.

The victim was able to escape the home safely before deputies arrived. After trying to make contact with the suspect barricaded in the home, authorities deployed multiple divisions including a patrol, a tactical team, negotiators, investigators, drone operators and a K9 unit.

After several hours talking with the KCSO negotiation team, the suspect, a 43-year-old man, surrendered just before 6:00 PM. He was taken into custody and is lodged at the Kent County Correctional Facility pending review of charges…
