The Kent County Animal Shelter has put out the call on social media for food donations—and what they are asking for might surprise you.

Right now though, KCAS says they are running low on beef stock and peanut butter—two items you might not immediately think of in connection to animals.
These pantry staples are essential for the shelter’s daily in-kennel enrichment program, helping dogs stay happy, healthy, and mentally engaged while waiting for their forever homes. Staff and volunteers use chicken, beef, or vegetable broth to make pupsicles, pup cups, and food toppers that encourage picky eaters or soothe stressed dogs. Peanut butter? It fills KONG toys, disguises medications, and even creates fun “PB pizza plates” to keep tails wagging.
