The mastodon had been buried on the Clapps’ farm near Kent City for 13,210 years. They had an hour to decide what to do with it.
By August 2022, of course, the mastodon was just bones. A lot of bones: more than 130 of them, enough to construct about 70% of a prehistoric cousin of the elephant.
Michael and Courtney Clapp could have sold it for parts. (The mastodon bones listed on eBay are mostly advertised as “pre-owned,” which is maybe the best thing on the internet.)…
