GRPD places camera in neighborhood where two men shot dead

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A portable police camera was placed Wednesday in a parking lot near the corner of Sigsbee Street and Diamond Avenue after two men lost their lives to gun violence in that area within weeks of one another.

Grand Rapids Police Department detectives continue to investigate Tuesday morning’s shooting that killed a middle-aged man and the August 10th shooting death of 38-year-old Randy Campbell.

“It kind of broke the hearts of a lot of people when it happened,” said Marian Barrera-Young following Campbell’s death. She’s served as the crime prevention coordinator for the Baxter Neighborhood Association for more than 30 years.

“My whole mission is not just to put out fires, but to see how the fires start,” she said. Barrera-Young encourages the community to speak up after what happened.

“People who live in the community have to make a change too. They have to take a look at themselves in the mirror and ask, ‘What can I do to help?’” Barrera-Young said…
