Ticket tax could generate up to $8.1M for Grand Rapids, but would need lawmaker and voter buy-in

Levying a new admissions tax on sporting and entertainment events in Grand Rapids could generate up to $8.1 million a year for the city, according to a new analysis.

At the request of members of the Detroit City Council, the nonpartisan Citizens Research Council of Michigan published a deep dive Wednesday looking at how much revenue a local-option admissions tax could generate for Detroit, Grand Rapids, Ann Arbor, Lansing and East Lansing.
