Judge denies expedited resentencing for double murderer

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A convicted double murderer set for resentencing will not receive an immediate hearing in Kent County Circuit Court.

Charles Ronald Martin, 78, is the oldest prisoner in Kent County to be resentenced under new “juvie lifer” laws.

Martin has served 57 years for the murders of two clerks at a Walker gas station during a robbery. In March 1968, Martin shot and killed 53-year-old Gerald Gort and 17-year-old Jack McRoy, both clerks at the Cavalier Service Station on Remembrance Road…
