GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Construction of Amway Stadium, the 8,500-seat soccer stadium being built in downtown Grand Rapids, is progressing on schedule, officials say, with the venue’s first steel beams expected to be installed late next month.
Since work started in May, crews have been preparing the stadium’s roughly eight-acre site, next to the David D. Hunting YMCA on Lake Michigan Drive NW, for construction.
They’ve torn out asphalt from the former parking lot where the stadium will be built, and have relocated and removed underground utilities that ran through the property, said Shane Napper, president and CEO of Rockford, the Grand Rapids-based construction firm leading the project…
