Maverik exits Michigan as Casey’s buys eight c-stores

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Casey’s General Stores is deepening its presence in Michigan with the purchase of all eight Maverik-owned convenience stores in the state — a mix of former Kum & Go sites and one newly converted location.

The stores, concentrated in the greater Grand Rapids area, include seven that Maverik inherited when it acquired Kum & Go, as well as a former Arnie’s Bakery location that the Utah-based retailer had recently remodeled into a convenience store. Casey’s began operating the sites last week, according to a company spokesperson.

The acquisition marks another step in Casey’s steady expansion across the Midwest. The chain, which has been building its network in Michigan’s southwest corridor with stores in communities such as New Buffalo and Bridgman, also broke ground last month on a new store in Hartford…
