Semi-truck crashes off I-96 in Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A semi-truck crossed the median into oncoming traffic on a Grand Rapids highway and went off the side of the road after the driver had a medical issue, police say.

The crash happened Tuesday afternoon on I-96 near Monroe Avenue on Grand Rapids’ north side. Michigan State Police say the semi was headed east when he had a medical issue that caused him to lose consciousness.

The truck crashed through the median, crossed lanes of oncoming traffic and veered off the road into an embankment on the westbound side of the highway near Northpark Presbyterian Church, according to MSP.
