One of the best nights of the year is Halloweennight, where, as a kid, you’re allowed to stay out late, dress up in costumes, and get loads of candy that you hope will last you until next year, but in reality will last maybe two weeks. The phrase “Trick or Treat!” is easily one of the most well-known in the English vernacular (don’t quote me on that).

But a growing trend that really skyrocketed in popularity as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic is the Trunk or Treat, which cuts out the need to go door to door through a neighborhood and instead lets you go to a big parking lot, go to a car trunk, and get tons of candy.
It doesn’t have the same pomp and circumstance as going through the neighborhood, but it is an excellent alternative for areas with few houses in a central location. So as these trunk-or-treats rise in popularity, what do people in Grand Rapids plan to do for Halloween this year?
To get an idea of what locals are doing this year, I posted on both the WGRD Facebook page and the r/grandrapids subreddit to gather input on how people are feeling about this new form of candy collection leading up to the spookiest night of the year. The top comment on Reddit, with 114 upvotes, was a negative reaction:
