GRAND HAVEN, Mich. — A deadly shooting at an Ottawa County house party now has the 20-year-old gunman heading to prison for a minimum of nearly six years.
On Monday, an Ottawa County Circuit Court judge sentenced Westen Michael Meulenberg to between 5 years, 10 months and 25 years in prison for discharging a firearm in a building causing death.
Man pleads guilty to shooting that killed GVSU student at house party
The shooting happened in May at a house near Lake Michigan Drive and 2nd Avenue in Tallmadge Township. Several people were in the house at the time for a party.
Meulenberg was in an upstairs bedroom, while 19-year-old Connor Lotterman was downstairs, police said previously. Meulenberg obtained a gun and fired multiple rounds through the floor. One of the bullets hit Lotterman in the head, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
