Grand Rapids nonprofit says it will lose thousands amid SNAP benefit lapse

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Next month, SNAP benefits are set to dry up as the federal government remains shut down.

This will leave around 42 million people across the country scrambling to find food assistance. That includes nonprofits that rely on the money to feed hundreds each and every day.

Exodus Place is a transitional housing program for men experiencing homelessness in Grand Rapids. The president of the nonprofit says it will lose $27,000 per month starting Nov. 1 if SNAP benefits are put on pause.

The nonprofit relies on that funding to provide three meals per day to the 145 men who utilize its services. It relies on that money — along with donated food — to prepare the meals…
