Man gets prison after drugs, $1.2 million in cash found in metro Grand Rapids home

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A man who reportedly told police “they are going to kill me” after being busted with nearly $1.2 million in cash and about 2.5 pounds of cocaine was sentenced Thursday to more than a decade in prison.

The cocaine seizure by itself was impressive, but the cash pulled from various locations — including from a Mickey Mouse backpack — was a chart-topper locally.

GRPD: $1.2 million in cash found during drug bust

The drugs, cash and a handgun resulted in several charges for 42-year-old Antonio Cruz. He pleaded guilty to two of them, including delivery of more than 1,000 grams of cocaine, a potential life offense.

Kent County Circuit Court Judge Clay West on Thursday sentenced Cruz to 13 to 30 years in prison on the drug charge and a mandatory two years for a weapons offense.
