From homeless to helping others: Veteran leads Kent County’s Operation Green Light

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Green lights glowed across Kent County this week for Operation Green Light, honoring veterans through Veterans Day.

Behind the campaign is a veteran whose journey from combat, to homelessness, to public service shows why visibility matters.

Reginald Farrior, an Army veteran, deployed to Afghanistan in 2014, then worked logistics and fuel supply at Fort Stewart, Georgia. He was medically separated in 2018 and moved to Grand Rapids.

“I was working a mold remediation job and the doors just closed. So there was no notice that the company was going under. I was working on a Tuesday, came to work on a Wednesday and the doors were closed,” Farrior said. “Shortly after that job shut down, I wasn’t able to keep housing. I ended up becoming homeless and wasn’t able to keep up on rent,” he said…
