UPDATE: Cyclist killed after being hit by a semi-truck in Ottawa County

A 54-year-old Allendale man died after being hit by a semi-truck while riding his bicycle in Blendon Township, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash happened Friday around 4 p.m. near the intersection of 72nd Avenue and Barry Street.Deputies say the bicyclist was riding south on 72nd Avenue when he tried to turn left onto Barry Street. A 78-year-old Kent City man was driving a 1995 Ford semi-truck southbound on the same road and was attempting to pass the cyclist when the bicyclist turned left.

The semi-truck hit the cyclist during the turn. The cyclist died from his injuries…
