Faith leaders call on community involvement to curb violence

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Two faith leaders called for an end to gun violence Sunday after a week marred by several shootings around Grand Rapids.

“At some point you and I need to look at what our actions or inactivity is to this major health crisis,” Pastor Jerry Bishop said in his sermon at Lifequest Urban Outreach.

He called the issue of gun violence a matter of public health. Bishop also called on his congregation to share the stories of their paths of success with others in order to guide them away from violence, volunteer and mentor, and do something to put their faith into action.

“We have to look at the sickness that’s in us that keeps us so complacent that we will drive by a fistfight among teenagers,” he said…
