Man killed in GR shooting remembered as ‘peacemaker’

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The family of the man shot and killed in Grand Rapids on Nov. 6 remembers him as a blessing, peacemaker, creative and loving.

According to GRPD, on Nov. 6, Moody was found by police lying in the middle of Hollister Avenue after they were called to the scene of a shooting. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Monday morning, Gary Lee Griggs was charged with murder in Moody’s death. Griggs had just gotten out of prison in 2023 for a 2005 murder he pleaded guilty to.

Donovan Moody, also known as “Spinny,” was the youngest of nine.

“We grew up together. You know, that’s my little brother. It was always just fun being with him. It’s never a dull moment,” said Elisa Moody, Donovan’s older sister.

“He was a baby brother, but he was a defender. He was my defender,” Tonya Williams, Moody’s mother said. “I’ll let him know, ‘Donovan, I’m your mother. Let me take care of you.’”…
