GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A man accused of attacking an Ottawa County homeowner with a knife and killing the man’s dog is also wanted in Grand Rapids for stabbing his grandmother in early November, court records show.
Jason Neshawn Varnado “had a thousand-yard stare and kept saying that he didn’t know what was going on,” after the attack that left his grandmother hospitalized, court records show.
Varnado, 23, has three bench warrants in Kent County for failing to appear in court. The most serious case involves the reported Nov. 2 knife attack in his grandmother’s kitchen.

Varnado was arraigned Thursday in Grand Haven on charges stemming from a Nov. 18 attack in Ottawa County’s Olive Township. In that case, the 68-year-old homeowner said Varnado barged into the house after asking for water and attacked him with a knife. The homeowner’s dog was fatally stabbed while protecting his owner.
Varnado was charged in that case with first-degree home invasion, killing or torturing an animal and felonious assault. He is being held in the Ottawa County Jail on a $250,000 bond. A probable cause conference has been set for Dec. 5…
