On December 2, 2025, musicians from Lowell High School will perform with members of the Grand Rapids Symphony. The event, called a Side by Side concert, will be held at the Lowell Performing Arts Center at 11700 Vergennes St. SE. Tickets cost $12 in advance or $15 at the door.
The program will include classical works such as Beethoven’s Egmont Overture and Edvard Grieg’s ‘Ase’s Death’ from ‘Peer Gynt Suite No. 1,’ Op. 46. The concert will also feature ‘In the Hall of the Mountain King.’ Students from the high school’s chamber orchestra and top band section leaders have prepared for the event with Director Wendy Tenney. Tenney is also a substitute cellist with the Grand Rapids Symphony. The concert will end with a seasonal piece performed by both the students and professional musicians.
Senior violinist Leah Schwinkendorf said the event reflects the students’ preparation and effort. She noted that working with the symphony has encouraged her to consider a future in music.
