See inside Kent County’s newly finished $4.8M health clinic renovation

KENT COUNTY, MI – Kent County has wrapped up a $4.8 million renovation at its health clinic that added new waiting rooms and exam rooms and improved soundproofing to enhance patient confidentiality.

The Kent County Health Department held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday, Dec. 4, to unveil the improvements which more than doubled the clinic’s number of personal health service examine rooms used for pregnancy, sexually transmitted disease testing and more.

“The immediate public impact of what residents will experience: Shorter wait times, greater confidentiality, more modern, welcoming patient-centered spaces,” said Kent County Administrator Al Vanderberg. “This is not just a renovation. It’s a reinvestment in equitable, accessible personal health services for all Kent County residents.”

These are some of the improvements made to the space, located at 700 Fuller Ave. NE in Grand Rapids:

  • Separated waiting rooms for various services including woman, infants and children (WIC) and personal health services, which include testing and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases
  • Improved soundproofing in WIC and immunization areas
  • Six new exam rooms added to WIC and immunization areas, bringing total to 16
  • Six new exam rooms added to STI and HIV clinic, bringing total to 10
  • Improved layout for staff workspaces

The bulk of the funding for the project came from $3.9 million in federal relief dollars allocated by the Kent County Board of Commissioners. The board also allocated another $524,000 for the project this week, and the health department contributed $400,000 toward the project from available grants…
