GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The daughter of the man shot and killed by Grand Rapids police in an exchange of gunfire over the weekend said her father had grown increasingly depressed since the murder of his son.
She told News 8 that her father, Martin Martinez Sr., 51, of Grand Rapids, had bought a gun to protect his family after the homicide.

His son, Martin Martinez-Ramirez, was 20 when he was shot and killed in Kentwood in January 2024 — a shooting that remains unsolved.
“At first, his intentions (for the gun) were to protect the family, but then he started talking about how my brother’s case was not getting solved, how if he knew who did it, he would get revenge himself and let himself get killed by police,” the daughter said…
