Construction begins on $36.4M conversion of former grocery store into housing

Developers have started construction on a 168-unit conversion of a former grocery store into workforce housing.

SW Real Estate Investment, a development and brokerage firm founded in May by Scott Wierda and his son Spencer Wierda, broke ground Dec. 5 on the $36.4 million Breton Meadows apartment project at 4325 Breton Road SE in Grand Rapids.

The developers are demolishing a shuttered Family Fare to make way for 84 one-bedroom and 84 two-bedroom apartments across seven three-story buildings with 24 units each…
