Court ruling means Sligh building will ‘live another day’

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Antique stores in the Sligh building in Grand Rapids can stay open for now, but the future of the property remains uncertain.

A Kent County court hearing was held Friday to consider a motion that would have forced the tenants — popular antique shops — out of the building. Judge Curt Benson denied the motion to close the building, but cautioned repairs are needed and that the building’s financial issues need to be resolved.

Mark Miller, co-owner of building tenant Lost & Found Antiques, acknowledged the building needs repairs.

“It’s an 1880s building, so obviously there’s work that needs to be done and previous owners have deferred that. I don’t know if it’s expenses, but over time, there’s an accumulation of stuff that actually needs to be done,” Miller said…
