Downtown Grand Rapids building to be converted into artist marketplace

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — The owner of a commercial building at the corner of South Division Avenue and Cherry Street in downtown Grand Rapids plans to convert the space into a vendor market for artists and second-hand retailers.

Bradley Veneklase, the owner of Urban Soil Realty, said he hopes to open the market on March 1 after the lease of the building’s current tenant, The Art of Life Gallery, ends on Jan. 31. The building is located at 200 S. Division Ave.

He said the building has 16,000 square feet of space on the first floor and 7,500 square feet in the basement. He estimates the building has room for more than 80 vendors. Vendors could choose to rent a booth at the space, while artists could rent wall space for paintings and other creations…
