GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — With steady rain falling throughout Sunday and harsher weather expected overnight into Monday morning, the Kent County Road Commission is preparing for what could be a dangerous start to the workweek.
Officials say the biggest concern is the transition from rain to snow and ice, which could create slick roads, reduced traction and poor visibility during the morning commute.

To get ahead of the weather, the road commission’s night shift reported for duty about three hours earlier than usual. Typically, the night crew begins work around 9:30 p.m., but crews came in early Sunday evening to monitor problem areas across the county.
