MINNEAPOLIS — A Grand Rapids native now living in the Minneapolis neighborhood where a U.S. citizen was killed by a federal agent this weekend says the neighborhood is “like a war zone.”
Markanetta Smith was born and raised in West Michigan. She graduated from Rogers High School — now Wyoming High School — and Grand Valley State University before moving to Minneapolis in 2014 for graduate school, where she stayed.
She lives less than a mile away from Nicollet Avenue and West 26th Street in the Whittier neighborhood, where Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old ICU nurse, was shot and killed by a Border Patrol agent on Saturday morning…
