Veggie Van boosts fresh produce access for seniors in Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The YMCA Veggie Van made a stop at Care Resources in Grand Rapids on Tuesday, bringing fresh fruits and vegetables directly to older adults who might otherwise struggle to access healthy food.

The mobile farmers market, which has been operating for over 15 years, visited the Care Resources Day Center at 4150 Kalamazoo Avenue SE as part of a new collaboration between the two organizations.

“I think the Veggie Van and Care Resources collaboration is really important for our participants to maintain that sense of independence and agency over their own choices,” said Kelli Greer, provider relations liaison at Care Resources. “Something that we might take for granted is going to the grocery store on our own, and a lot of these participants aren’t able to get there, maybe due to transportation or just accessibility.”…
