Convenience store turf war reaches West Michigan as Casey’s expands

Casey’s General Stores is entering the Grand Haven market with a $3 million gas station and convenience store at the site of a former Comerica Bank branch.

The Iowa-based chain plans to demolish the branch at 1102 Robbins Rd. that’s been vacant since 2024 and build a new 2,852-square-foot store in its place. The store would be Casey’s 13th location in Michigan. Plans call for four gas pumps and 14 parking spaces, with half of the building to be dedicated for retail.

The new Grand Haven location comes as Casey’s grows its foothold in West Michigan and follows an October deal in which the chain, which is known for its fresh pizza, purchased eight Kum & Go and Maverik stores. The locations in Grand Rapids, Wyoming, Kentwood, Walker and Grandville rebranded under the Casey’s banner…
