Juvenile lifer gets chance at freedom 28 years after drug-related shooting

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – At 14 years old, Cedric King learned he would spend the rest of his life in the state’s prison system with no chance of getting out.

In 1988, a Kent County judge sentenced King to life without parole for conspiracy to commit murder in a drug-related shooting. The victim survived.

The judge said King could be considered for parole after serving 15 years. That never happened, despite pleas from the sentencing judge and King’s attorneys. King has remained incarcerated ever since…
