M-37 expansion begins in Caledonia to ease traffic amid growth

CALEDONIA, Mich. (WOOD) — A major reconstruction project has begun for M-37 in Caledonia.

The Michigan Department of Transportation says over the next two years it will expand a three-mile stretch of the state trunkline to four total lanes and extend the median from where it ends north of 76th Street all the way into the Village of Caledonia near 92nd Street. Along the way, each major intersection will be rebuilt to accommodate Michigan left turns.

MDOT hopes to keep one lane of travel open in both directions for most of the project with intermittent total closures. The goal is to bring M-37 up to speed with the growing community it supports.

“So much growth out here,” Jordan Baker, owner of Comodo Motors told News 8. “It is a great place to live. Great schools and great people. It is still rural enough there are big lots for homes, there is space to grow, they are adding sidewalks, we have a lot of good things to offer in Caledonia.”…
