Former juvenile lifer pleads guilty to slew of charges, faces more time in prison

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A man who was previously serving a life sentence for murder and released in 2024 pleaded guilty to a slew of charges and faces more prison time for another felony allegedly committed while in jail.

Cody Jerome Skaggs, 46, was 18 years old in 1997 when he was sentenced to life in prison for second-degree murder in the death of 31-year-old Richard Morris at Lennie’s Place in Wyoming.

A Kent County judge resentenced him in 2023, changing his sentence to 25-75 years. He was released in 2024…
