Grand Rapids City Commission vacancy: Applications open March 10

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – The Grand Rapids City Commission has begun the process of filling the soon-to-be-vacant seat of 1st Ward Commissioner Drew Robbins, who is stepping down on Friday, March 6, to run for higher office.

Online applications will be posted Tuesday, March 10, for residents to apply to fill the rest of Robbins’ term, which expires Dec. 31, 2026. The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. March 24, said City Clerk Joel Hondorp.

The applicants will be vetted and interviewed by the city commission’s committee on appointments in April. The committee will narrow down a list of finalists, and the city commission will interview those candidates and select a finalist in late April…
