On the morning of March 2, LSA senior Brendan LaFrenier set off from the Detroit Riverfront with a goal that would take him across Michigan on foot. Over the next four days, LaFrenier ran more than 200 miles west to Lake Michigan in Holland, aiming to raise $100,000 for homeless shelters across the state and awareness for people experiencing homelessness.
The initiative, titled “Endurance for Change,” was initially planned as a three-day challenge but ultimately lasted 99 hours and totaled around 213 miles. Each day, LaFrenier ran for roughly 14 to 15 hours with support from a rotating crew of pacers and a team who managed his nutrition, hydration and recovery.
Bringing the project to life required months of planning by a student-led team of more than 20 people working across film production, outreach, media and fundraising. To raise awareness, the team is creating a documentary directed by LSA senior Nick DelFranco, who became friends with LaFrenier while living on the same floor of their residence hall freshman year…
