1 suspect in animal hoarding case arrested in Grand Rapids, another likely fled out of state

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A woman allegedly tied to an animal hoarding case in Flint Township has been arrested in Grand Rapids and arraigned on felony charges.

The Flint Township Police Department says Brenda Shires was arrested Thursday in Grand Rapids.

“Flint Township detectives contacted the Grand Rapids Police Department and asked them to check an address for Brenda. In under an hour they had Brenda in custody and arrangements were made to transfer her to Flint Township detectives where she was lodged at the Genesee County Jail,” the Flint Township Police Department said in a news release.

Shires was arraigned on Friday and issued a $150,000 bond. Court records show she has been charged with two felonies and a misdemeanor: one count of animal abandonment (25 or more animals), one count of killing or torturing animals and one count of possessing dead bodies of animals…
