Grand Rapids venue to host ‘speed dating for hobbies’ event

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — On Sunday, visitors to The Lit, a downtown Grand Rapids event space, can attend the first-ever Hobby Hop and try 10-minute tutorials of 10 different unique hobbies.

“It’s like speed dating for hobbies,” said Steve Zaagman, organizer of the Hobby Hop.

Featuring activities like calligraphy, playing the ukulele, dancing, meditation, sword fighting and more, the Hobby Hop is a ticketed experience that encourages guests to try new creative practices that they may not have tried before or would not have considered trying on their own.

“By the end of the night, you will have experienced 10 different hobbies,” Zaagman said. “Hopefully, you’ve found a new passion.”

Zaagman has hosted other events at The Lit, which is owned and operated by local event planner The Penny Loafer, but the Hobby Hop is a new initiative to help West Michigan residents connect with others and try new things as a community…
