Curbside food scrap collection coming to East Grand Rapids

EAST GRAND RAPIDS, MI – East Grand Rapids residents will soon be able to leave some of their food scraps in bins at their curbside to be picked up by the city for composting.

The city is expanding its yard waste curbside collection program to also include food waste, in an effort to divert more organic food waste from the landfill.

Starting Monday, April 6, the city’s public works department will pick up food scraps and yard waste from its 4,000 homeowners’ curbs once a week. The food and yard waste will be taken to a large-scale processor for composting…
