It’s pretty hard to miss Zach Baker whenever he’s out for a run. No, it’s not because he’s wearing bright colors; it’s the massive American flag he carries while he runs. For the last couple of years, people have come to refer to him simply as the ‘Flag Man’, a moniker Zach has taken in stride (no pun intended).

Since he was featured in a FOX17 segment in 2022, Zach has created a Facebook page, begun running in events with his flag, and continues to raise awareness for a cause he is willing to run 35 miles in one day to promote.
Zach ‘Flag Man’ Baker Runs 35 Miles
On March 22nd, Zach began an ultramarathon running from Grand Haven to Grand Rapids, a 35-mile run, all while carrying Old Glory. His route was pretty straightforward, starting at Hatton Park in Grand Haven, heading south on Lakeshore Ave to Lake Michigan Dr, then running along Lake Michigan Dr before ending his journey at the Veteran Memorial Park in Grand Rapids.
The reason behind the run was a startling statistic: every day, 22 veterans lose their lives to suicide. He was running for the 100 veterans who lost their lives whose names were on his shirt. Until 22 becomes 0, he’ll keep running.
